Konban Wa!

I started learning Japanese today. Instant attraction. Lust at first sight and so on. Embarrasingly enough, on the way home from uni I made a stop at the Japanese supermarket to indulge my cultural sweet tooth and then rushed up to my room with a cup of tea to start practicing my hiragana. Welcome back Japan obsession. Not only that, but I had forgotten how much I enjoyed learning a new language in the three years I have remained nothing but an English speaking simpleton. Uni is great too. After falling into the pattern of working in retail 6 days a week you forget how much there is to learn and the potential of creativity and uni life.

drawing is not a sport i excel at. yet i find it somewhat rewarding to colour in my own outlines using progresso pencils. i can almost pretend i am achieving something.

this is the only chair in the courtyard i like sitting on. and it doesn't even belong in the courtyard. it belongs at the computer. devestating.

the only photos ive managed to upload in 2010. coincidently, most were rubbish blurry shots from nye. still, a small snapshot of the last few months. i am off to melbourne tomorrow for three nights. i am hoping to catch both the ron mueck and jenny holzer exhibitions, ride a bike complimentary of little creatures, pick up a copy of dawn tans new zine and drink a shit load of coffee. will also manage to buy a lot of rather expensive clothing and footwear items... when in rome...

My Little Friday.

Things I did today.

1. Stopped in at the Romance was Born pop up shop in Paddington. 50% off. Everything. Go there now! I left with an inexpensive print clutch. Indulges my love for both the label and Del Kathryn Barton. Its 50% off until the 31st when it pops back down again. I urge you to go. And buy the floral print shorts with the bobble trim! So sexy. (Although they made me look five. Fuck)

2. Took my black and white film to be developed at Just Shoot, the lomography shop in Paddington. Drooled over various Diana accessories I cannot afford.

3. Whilst I was there I had a peek at Pattie Boyd's exhibition in the adjoining gallery (Blender Gallery). Been meaning to check it out forever and so glad I did. If you're into photography or music, this is a must, must, must.

4. Ran into a friend and conversed over my favourite summer drink at Starbucks. Tall shaken green tea with lemonade and no syrup. Delicious. I used to depise Starbucks due to the amount of words it takes to order and its overt 'Americaness.' But shit, they make really good cold drinks and it reminds me of Japan. Ice cafe au lait over Shibuya crossing? Or Ice caramel macchiato in Harajuku? I'm a cafe au lait person myself. As I've mentioned.

5. Made egg and nori rolls for lunch. They looked as if they were rolled by an infant. Tasted pretty nice. I used this recipe.

6. Struggled to survive in the heat.

7. Made basic pesto with almonds. - bunch of basil finely chopped, handful of slivered almonds, crushed, 1 garlic clove, crushed, half a cup of grated parmesan, oil, salt. Mix together, etc.

tennis!

Although work prevented me from arriving in time for the physical action of playing tennis, I did enjoy the atmosphere provided by this wee playing space yesterday evening. It's nice to feel as if I am appreciating the Australian summer for once, playing sport til dusk, sitting in sunlight without wearing sunscreen. Things I don't often partake in. A lot of hard work went into this tennis court, an inner city blessing for us all! Maybe one day I'll play, and like, score some points or something.

I woke up really early this morning so I thought I'd be a try and be some kind of grown up for once and read the news online. Thing is, the only article that didn't bore or depress me was one about the discovery of workers quaters beside the largest pyramid in Egypt. Due to the fact this is actually ancient history, you can perhaps grasp my contempt for news. Isn't the saying like, a picture speaks a thousand words or something? yeah.

How pretty are these images from www.polkadots-vodkashots.blogspot.com? How I love interiors. I think my room is due for a little change around. It's just kinda uninspiring when I know I'll be moving again in a month or so. There are lots of changes in the works at the moment. finishing my first year uni, starting two new jobs and a silversmith course. I'm excited, but kinda overwhelmed. I've also finished my first zine. Yay! I'll do some scans and post soon.

Fridays are exciting. I'm spending my friday morning grappling with my dear little typewriter who never behaves. Just finishing off a little Japan - inspired zine for Uni on monday, I'm about to give typing a break and get out the glue stick, shit yeah! Who doesn't love making collages. the importance of nothingness.

I really, really, really do not have time to be posting right now. Inextricable amount of Uni work to do. But this is cute and exciting. Salvador Dali.

Yes, I went to Liquid Desire on the weekend, and oui, I will gush about it to anyone who will listen. So for now, I will not gush, I will simply tell you to (cyber) toddle over to youtube, type in destino and watch the short film Dali and Disney started creating in the 40's. Words seriously cannot describe. Also, has anyone ever seen a fashion editorial based on any of Dali's photographs? I can't imagine why someone would not have used the idea yet.
